For some time, reporters from across the globe have been questioning the prolonging of the career of Misbah-ul-Haq. At 42, it is highly likely that he can hang up his boots at any time given his age as well as his fitness.

However, despite all of this, Misbah has continuously quashed his plans for retirement and has now set his sights on playing the Pakistan Super League. Recently, it was also confirmed that there was a proposal to play the final at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Moreover, there is also a fact that has seen many not wanting to play despite the security arrangements made.

“I need to think about that,” Misbah told reporters when asked if he would play in the Sydney Test starting on Jan. 3. “(If I´m not contributing) there´s no point in hanging around,” the 42-year-old had said.

“Nathan Lyon, at the moment, I think he is bowling very well,” Misbah-ul-Haq, said. “But if you compare Australian conditions with the Indian conditions, or any Asian conditions, there is difference of bounce, which normally spinners get in Australia. That’s why I think when our spinners come here, it is difficult for them because they have to get used to these conditions and utilize that bounce in their favour.

“When the bowlers from here go to Asia, they find it difficult to utilize these sort of turning tracks, because there, under-cutter bowlers who bowl quicker are effective. Bowlers who bowl overspin and bowl slower normally get thrashed. It will be difficult for them. I think they can [do well], it’s about adjusting yourself to the conditions. The biggest challenge will be India’s strong batting line-up. They’re batting beautifully in their own conditions.”

However, in spite of stating that he would not consider retirement for a while, the fact of the matter remains that Misbah’s captaincy in recent months has been quite ordinary, to say the least. He has lost both series down under on the spin against New Zealand and Australia respectively.

Apart from the first Test at the Gabba in Brisbane, Misbah’s side has not been able to pull the strings as they have capitulated to the Aussies in recent times including the terrible collapse on the final day’s play at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
