Former Australia pacer Mitchell Johnson has been in the thick of banter on Twitter in the build-up to the India v Australia match at Mohali in the World T20. The stakes were extremely high, especially given the fact that two heavyweights in the Indian cricketing arena collided. In addition, it also could potentially mean that this was Shane Watson’s final match.
As Ross Taylor had called it earlier, this could potentially be the match of the tournament. He was absolutely right. However, what he wouldn’t have seen coming was the excellence of one man – Virat Kohli. With Yuvraj Singh’s wicket, most Indian fans watching the game had perhaps made peace with the fact that this wasn’t going to be their title winning edition. Their hopes, however, were miraculously revived when Virat Kohli began to desiccate the Aussie pace attack in an amazing fashion. Of the 39 runs required in the final 3 overs, Kohli targeted Faulkner and Coulter-Nile. His calculations were inch perfect.
He had plundered 34 of those runs, leaving the finishing formalities to MS Dhoni. The final four runs, rather fittingly, was thumped by the Indian skipper. However, while many treasured the sights of Virat Kohli going down on his knees at Mohali, it appeared as though Mitchell Johnson too had perhaps had a change of heart.
As he does on most occasions, the 34-year old took to Twitter to give his heartfelt congratulation to Virat Kohli following the epic chase. The tweet seemingly erased most of the banter Mitchell Johnson had said earlier. His tweet read: “Well to be fair, he definitely stepped it up for this T20 World Cup. Too good in the end.”
