Australian spearhead Mitchell Starc returned to bowling after his tour of India was cut short by an injury. The left-arm pacer picked up the injury during the second Test match of the tour at Bengaluru and Pat Cummins was named as his replacement.

The paceman is back on the field again and is ready to deliver for the Aussies in the Champions Trophy which gets underway from June 1. The fiery bowler admitted that himself and Josh Hazlewood won’t give up the new ball without a fight despite the brilliant performances put forward by Pat Cummins and James Pattinson.

The left armer hit the nets in Brisbane but bowled with a shortened run-up of six steps with the high-performance coach and former Test teammate Ryan Harris watching on. But Starc is eager to bowl with is full run up from next week as he sets his eyes on the upcoming Champions Trophy.

Australia are to play Sri Lanka on May 26 and Pakistan on May 29 in the warm-up matches, before their tournament opener against New Zealand at Edgbaston on June 2. And the bowler hopes to feature in one or both the warm-up matches and says he is “on track, if not a little bit ahead of schedule”.

He is looking forward to bowling with Hazlewood, Cummins and Pattinson and wants all four of them to be included in the playing XI not only for the Champions Trophy but for the Ashes too.

Starc was quoted by cricket.com.au as saying, “It’s really exciting, not only for the Champions Trophy but also for the rest of the summer if we can stay fit and keep playing cricket”

“The four of us have spent a lot of time around each other and we have a close friendship. If there’s a stage when we can unleash the four of us in the same game (in the Champions Trophy) and then looking forward to the Ashes, if the same can happen there with four steaming quicks and Nathan Lyon being the spinner, it’d be really exciting,” he said.
