India celebrated its 72nd Independence Day on Wednesday as the social media was filled with the patriotic messages. Even the Cricket and Bollywood celebrities showed their love towards the country and wished everyone on the auspicious occasion. Mithali Raj, the legendary Woman cricketer, also posted a message regarding the same, but she was a little late in doing it. However, when a fan questioned the timing of her I-Day wish, she came up with a perfect response to shut the troll.

Raj is currently busy playing in the ongoing Challengers Trophy. She is leading India Blue in the T20 tournament and the team has lost both their matches so far. As far as her individual performance is concerned, she scored a half-century in the first match and looked in good touch with the bat. But none of the other batters could lend support to her which led in the team posting a below-par total.

In the second match against India Green, the skipper lost her wicket early only for her teammates to follow the norm. Another defeat in the competition will end their campaign and she would be wanting more commitment from the team.

Raj’s stunning response

Mithali Raj, much like the other celebrities, took to her official Twitter handle and posted a wonderful message remembering the ones who sacrificed their lives for India’s freedom. “Wishing India, freedom from hunger, poverty, discrimination, sexism, abuse & greed. We have had 72 years to build ourselves in the manner we want to be defined. Are we close? Lives were lost so we could breathe free. Let’s honour those sacrifices. Jai Hind,” her late-night tweet read.

Social Media is always ready to point out small mistakes of everyone these days and one of the fans did the same as he questioned the timing of Raj’s tweet and also wittily said that the Independence Day is over. Raj, however, was quick in her response and she shut him down by saying that she was busy playing Challengers Trophy and the phone is not allowed to use on and off the field.

“I’m honored that you think I’m a celebrity. I’m merely an athlete on national duty since 1999. We have the challengers trophy going on and I don’t have the phone with me on the field or off it on Match days. Hope that’s a good enough reason for the delay? Happy Independence Day,” she replied.
