Indian Women’s team captain Mithali Raj has since the team’s tremendous show in the Women’s World Cup 2017 earned a lot of fans on social media. But the growing numbers are not always a good sign and she’d understand that with the last couple of incidents on Twitter. She was earlier sweat shamed by a certain someone and now another fan has an advice on what she should be wearing.

Mithali posted an image with four of her colleagues from an old photo shoot as a throwback. The man whose Twitter handle goes by the name NoOne commented, “Delete it mam it’s not good! people idolize you but this dressing sense doesn’t is”. It is highly derogatory and shocking that fans need to get over this habit of suggesting others what to wear and what not.

Soon, her fans got in the act and replied to those and asked them to change their mentality rather than trying to impose their opinions on others.

Growing fan following

Mithali had 2000 odd followers on Twitter before the World Cup and after their success, it has grown over ten times. Currently, the leading run-scorer in Women’s ODIs has more than 220,000 followers.

Talking about the same in an interview with TOI, she had said, “I wasn’t very savvy about social media and I was forced to get on to Twitter. I had just 2,000 followers before the World Cup (she now has 193,000!), but I didn’t feel bad about it, I’d just started. But then, once the World Cup ended, I have seen a huge fan following. It feels nice to be special for so many people and have so many followers. Basically, because of women’s cricket and its followers, the sport itself has grown.”
