Just when his career had started to take off, he was caught in the spot-fixing scandal. It was the same English soil that saw his downfall. During Pakistan’s tour to England in 2010, Mohammad Amir was seen overstepping deliberately on more than one occasion in the Test matches. Charges of spot fixing were labeled against him along with the then Pakistan captain Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif. Amir, being a juvenile at that time, got some consideration in his hearing.
He pleaded guilty and was thereby banned for 5 years. He made his comeback to the national side during Pakistan’s tour to New Zealand in 2015-16 season. Since then, he has been a regular member of the side. His form hasn’t shown any slump and is still looking hungry for wickets. The signing of an in-form bowler like Amir will be a big boost for Essex.
