Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Hafeez hasn’t had the smoothest of careers as far as bowling off-breaks is concerned. He was reported for suspect bowling actions and subsequently suspended as many as three times, the latest of which came last year in November. The issue has been a major hindrance for him to stay put in his position in the national squad.
Mickey Arthur, the head coach of Pakistan, previously mentioned that Hafeez’s bowling service would be required in order for the all-rounder to stake his claim back into the team. The recent incidents have frustrated the veteran, so much so that he lashed out the International Cricket Council (ICC) and questioned their procedures of reporting illegal actions.
However, the same didn’t go down well with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and they will be issuing a show cause notice to the 37-year cricketer from Sargodha, Punjab. “PCB is issuing show cause notice to Hafeez for his ill-conceived remarks against ICC in an interview to BBC,” an official of the PCB was quoted as saying by Geo News.
The harsh words by Hafeez
Lately, in an interview with BBC Urdu, Hafeez hurled the remarks against the board and criticised them for not doing their task appropriately to maintain healthy relations with other cricket boards. “There are so many things influencing [who gets called for suspect actions], it has a lot to do with the power of [some] boards and nobody wants to take them on.
Mostly there are soft corners and relations between people which no one wants to spoil. What I say is why not implement the rule and get every bowler in the world to go through [the testing process]. What is the difficulty in that?
“So I have my doubts about this [system]. This is suspicious, why are match referees or on-field umpires not able to see those flexing up to 35 but me with 16 degrees?” the all-round cricketer added.
