The Final of 2002 Natwest Trophy at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Stadium will always be remembered for the stupendous partnership between Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh. The Men in Blue snatched victory from the jaws of defeat and Kaif took charge in a situation when half of India’s batting was back in the hut and they still required around 180 runs from 25 overs to roll their opponent over.

Kaif didn’t get ruffled, rather he surged ahead and creamed the English attack with sheer ease. He scored 87 runs and took his team home in the thrilling run chase. He went on to play 125 ODIs for his national team. However, after 2006, he went out of the radar of the selectors and never came back to don the national colors. He also played 13 Tests in his short, yet illustrious career.

Kaif bids adieu to cricket

He played for Uttar Pradesh in the domestic circuit and then became the skipper of the Chhattisgarh domestic team which made its debut last year. With an experience of 186 first-class, 269 List A, and 75 T20s, he was an indefatigable trooper. He also has 10,000+ runs at the first-class level. He was also a part of the Rajasthan Royals squad in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008.

Unluckily, he was dropped from the team in the second season of the event in South Africa. Recently, the veteran hung his boots from competitive cricket. Following the decision, he took to Twitter and expressed his gratitude for representing the nation in international cricket.

He wrote, “When I started playing Cricket, the dream was to play in the India Cap one day. Have been very fortunate to step on to the field & represent my country on 190 days of my life. Today is an apt day for me to announce my retirement from all competitive Cricket. Thank you everyone”
