One of the leading Indian pacers Mohammad Shami has been named in the 15-man team India squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Shami will be returning to the Indian colors in the ODI format after almost two years. He has always been plagued by the injuries in his ODI career thus far. While many might opine that Shami might look rusty, the bowler begged to differ on the topic.

As per the recent quotes in the Times of India, Mohammad Shami said that the last couple of years have been tough for him. However, he did not spend the time away from the game. Shami pointed out that he worked on his weaknesses and spent a lot of time at the gym. He conceded that he is very confident of doing well in the Champions Trophy this year.

“Two years is a long time to be out of ODI squad. In these two years, I have focussed on my strength and fitness. I have also worked on my weaknesses. I have got leaner. I am hopeful that I can perform well in the upcoming Champions Trophy. I want to give my best shot,” quoted Mohammad Shami.

Currently, Shami is with the Delhi Daredevils camp in the ongoing edition of the IPL. He called the tournament as an ideal preparatory ground for the ICC mega event. Talking about the influence Zaheer Khan is having in the Delhi camp, Shami was happy to learn the tricks of the trade from the master.

“IPL is a good platform for me wherein I will be getting 8-10 matches before going to the international tournament. Obviously, when you speak to former players, you get valuable tips. If you speak to Zaheer, there is something or the other that emerges,” he quoted.

Talking about the Indian bowling lineup that has the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah in addition to Shami himself, the pacer remarked that the team has a very strong bowling lineup going into the tournament.

“Our attack is one of the best in the world. We need to help each other out there in the middle. We would be certainly giving our hundred per cent and the rest is luck. Looking forward to Champions Trophy,” conceded Mohammad Shami.
