Team India speedster Mohammad Shami who is out of the national team due to a knee injury which he sustained during the Test series against England will access his fitness at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru in a few days time. It will be done to determine whether the speedster can make a comeback in the national team for the final two Tests against Australia.

“I don’t know yet but if I’m fully fit and comfortable to play, I will be going to the NCA in Bangalore to assess my fitness… Thereafter, I may play in Bengal’s last two matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Chennai (March 4 & 6),” Shami was quoted as saying by The Telegraph on Sunday. Shami came to his home ground, the Eden Gardens to meet former Indian captain MS Dhoni after Jharkhand’s Vijay Hazare tie against Chattisgarh.

Shami has been out of the national team since the 3rd Test against England in Mohali in November. The Indian squad for the final two Tests will be picked after the conclusion of the 2nd Test in Bengaluru scheduled to be played from March 4. India lost the opening Test to Australia by a huge margin of 333 runs which handed Australia their first win on Indian soil in 13 years time. Left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe wrecked havoc as he finished with exceptional match figures of 12/70.

Speaking about India’s dismal performance Shami said, “Win and loss are part of the game. We may have a bad day. But let’s not blame anyone and instead, focus on the remaining matches. I’m sure we will bounce back.” Shami sounded quite optimistic about India’s chances in the remaining 3 tests of the series.

Shami has been an exceptional new ball bowler for India ever since making his Test debut during Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell Test series against West Indies in 2013. After a superb performance in the 2015 World Cup, Shami was sidelined for almost a year and after making his comeback injuries pegged him back again.
