Mohammed Shami's relatives say it is difficult to believe all the allegations against him

It won’t be wrong to say that the Mohammed Shami-Hasin Jahan saga continues to get murkier with each passing day. The wife has labelled Shami a “womaniser”, saying he has extra-marital affairs before alleging that he fixed matches. The count of allegations has risen at such an echelon that people close to Shami feel that all the various allegations against him are difficult to gulp.

The Indian pacer comes from a small village Amroha and villagers residing carry affectionate concordance towards the 28-year-old Indian speedster. It is believed, when Shami and Hasin visited Sahaspur and stayed at his family’s house, their neighbours and relatives would invite them home. Some distance outside Sahaspur is a plot, named ‘Hasin Farmhouse’, after the cricketer’s wife. Locals say the couple planned to build a house at the sprawling plot.

Difficult to believe

Aasma Jahan, a 65-year-old relative of Shami believes that the duo looked really happy when they visited Amroha a month back and seeing the total turnaround in day’s time is difficult to digest. “How could this be? Just a month ago they visited and looked happy. Hasin was treated like a princess by the entire village in the four years of their marriage,” he was quoted as saying by TOI.

Shami’s childhood friend, Jabir Hussain, said, “It is difficult to believe the allegations made against him. I remember he took on trolls online when they criticised Hasin for wearing modern clothes.”

“We are in the middle of a crisis and efforts are on to resolve it. Currently, Shami’s uncle, brother and a few others are in Kolkata to sort out the matter. His mother Anjumara is very ill. We can’t make any statement at present,” said a relative, on condition of anonymity.”

While people who are close to Shami have their say on the subject, the story is all set to take new twists and turns. It will be interesting to see where the investigation heads and what the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decides on the matter.
