Former Pakistani cricketer Moin Khan has recently urged the Pakistani cricket fans and the national cricket board to back their captain Sarfraz Ahmed. Sarfraz has been under the scrutiny following a very dismal show in the ODIs in New Zealand recently. Albeit the Men in Green managed to win the T20I series against the same opposition, their 0-5 drubbing in the ODIs seems like a tough pill to digest for the fans.

Many believe that there has been problems with the captaincy of Sarfraz. Amidst this backdrop, Moin Khan has come in support of Sarfraz. He recently quoted that the national side needs a captain like Sarfraz who leads from the front. He cited that it was not very long ago when everyone wanted him to take over as the captain across the three formats of the game. And now, the same fans should support their skipper in terms of crisis.

“Sarfraz is someone who leads from the front and gives his hundred percent for his country on the field. He was the unanimous choice of fans and critics across Pakistan to lead the team in all the three formats last year and should be given all the backing now so that he could lead with confidence and build up a competitive team for the next year’s World Cup in England,” quoted Moin Khan.

Praising Sarfraz’s approach

Many cricket pundits believe that the overly aggressive nature of Sarfraz’s captaincy is hurting the team. Moin Khan pointed out that it was this very approach that had helped Pakistan beat the much fancied Indian side in the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy last year. Pakistan had beaten India in the finals after having lost to the same opposition in the tournament earlier in the group stages. Moin clearly looked unhappy with the fans for not showing enough faith and patience in their skipper.

“It was this very approach of Sarfraz, that people are finding faults in, which won us the high-profile Champions Trophy in England last June where again the team bounced back after a heavy defeat against India,” mentioned the former Pakistani cricketer.
