Steve Smith led Australia has touched down in Bangladesh for a two-match Test series and one would have to say, the hosts are giving mighty Australians a tough time. At present, Bangladesh is a favourite to go one up and bag a scintillating win in the opening encounter of the series at Dhaka.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had announced 14-member squad for the first Test match against Australia. Right-hand batsman Mosaddek Hossain was dropped from the squad, after initially being picked. The reason for his omission was his eye injury, which he hasn’t recovered yet.
Hossain’s absence was a blessing in disguise for batting all-rounder Mominul Haque. However, the gravity of the subject has grown after BCB’s medical team believes Hossain’s eye trouble has become more complicated which eventually means, the 21-year-old lad will have to miss the whole series.
Mosaddek broke into the Bangladesh squad after a phenomenal performance in Under-17s and Under 19s. He debuted against Zimbabwe but could just score 15 runs. However, his performances since then have got better.
Mosaddek’s inclusion in HP squad
Interestingly, BCB has announced the 16-member squad for the High Performance (HP) team’s tour to England. And to many people’s surprise, Mosaddek has been included in the squad.
Mominul’s exclusion has been questioned by many and has created a huge uproar among the supporters and former cricketers. Selectors and the head coach were bombarded with the exclusion of Mominul. It has been believed that Mosaddek exclusion was planned.
It’s rumoured that the BCB chief Nazmul Hasan Papon made this decision to calm the situation down. In a way, Mosaddek has become the ‘scapegoat’ in this whole fiasco. He is currently in Thailand for eye-treatment and will fly with the HP squad to England if he’s declared fit.
Albeit, it should just be a matter of time before he wears the white jersey as he is a level-headed batsman who reads the game beautifully and is more than a handy off-break bowler.
