Asia Cup 2023: Most Runs Conceded in an Innings in Asia Cup History

The 16th edition of the Asia Cup is all set to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka prior to the ICC Cricket World Cup in India in October. The Lankan Lions are the current holders of the trophy and will be gunning to push through so as to defend their title

Since the inception of the ACC event, fans have witnessed some classic encounters as players have given numerous noteworthy performances with the bat and ball. However, there have been quite a few cricketers who have made their place on an unceremonious list.

With 15 editions played thus far, Bangladesh’s Shafiul Islam recorded the worst bowling figures as he gave 95 runs in his 10 overs against Pakistan, despite taking three wickets during the 2010 Asia Cup. Former Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir holds the record for the second most runs given in an Asia Cup match, as he leaked 87 runs in his 10 overs against arch-rivals India in the Super-Four fixture. Despite this, the Men in Green eventually won the contest in a hard-fought match by eight wickets.

During the Asia Cup 2000, Pakistan comfortably targeted India’s Thirunavukkarasu Kumaran for the big runs as he gave away 86 runs in just 10 overs with no scalps to his name. With this, Pakistan asserted their dominance in the contest and won the clash by 44 runs.

Bangladesh’s Khaled Mahmud and Shahadat Hossain and India’s Mohammed Shami leaked 81 runs each during certain editions of the Asia Cup. Shami was hammered for 81 runs during the clash against Sri Lanka in 2014, whereas Shahadat leaked as many runs in 2012 against team India.

Khaled Mahmud registered the fourth most expensive over while being up against Pakistan in Dhaka in 2000. Likewise, Irfan Pathan, too, makes it to this unceremonious list as he returned 80 runs for a solitary wicket in his 10 overs against the Lankan Lions in the 2008 Asia Cup.
