MS Dhoni is as good as we have got: Zaheer Khan

The recently concluded three-match series between two top-quality cricket playing nations ended in the favor of the host with England pulling the final ODI at the Leeds comprehensively. Going forward, The Indian Team will look to answer some pivotal questions, seeing the World Cup will be played in the same conditions in less than twelve months time. The number four spot conundrum continues to trouble India but something unusual which was observed this time around was MS Dhoni’s batting.

If seen on a holistic view, in two games that MS Dhoni batted, Indian team kept on losing wickets from the other end which had put pressure on him to play more responsibly. In the final encounter between two nations, Dhoni came out to bat ahead of regular number four batter Suresh Raina, which reflected that confidence is showering over him.

It was observed that Dhoni wasn’t able to middle the ball and was reluctant while rotating the strike. Some cricket pundits believe it was more because of the situation, however, some even questioned his batting technique. Further, many even questioned his place in the team and feel that time has come for MS to hang his boots.

Zaheer Khan came to all praise for MS Dhoni

However, former prolific speedster Zaheer Khan came to all praise and said that MS Dhoni is as good as we got. He believes that Indian team management and players should keep the faith in the 37-year-old wicket-keeper batsman as he still carries the experience and form on his back which will help India win matches in future as well. He also said that MS Dhoni will prove to be an integral part of the mix in the World Cup 2019.

On the sidelines of a seminar, Zaheer Khan told PTI that, “If the team management has persisted with him till now, they might as well do it till the World Cup. Dhoni has performed the difficult job of captaining India for years. His experience could prove to be extremely beneficial. He is as good as we have got.”
