Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni is likely to feature in the premier one-day domestic tournament this year. The Vijay Hazare Trophy is scheduled to be played from February 25. As per the sources in the Jharkhand Stats Cricket Association (JSCA), Dhoni has agreed to feature in the tournament. In case he plays, he will be leading the side.

The reports in Xtratime.in suggest that there is no official announcement regarding the same yet. MS Dhoni had recently stepped down as the limited overs captain of the Indian team. He passed on the leadership baton to Virat Kohli and featured in the Indian side under Kohli in the recently concluded limited-overs fixtures against England.

With no more ODI matches coming up for India, Vijay Hazare Trophy would serve as a good preparatory ground for Dhoni for the upcoming Champions Trophy this year.

In the previous edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, it was pace bowler Varun Aaron, who had led the side. The team had managed to reach the quarterfinals last year. In the recent times, it has been batsman Saurabh Tiwary, who has been leading Jharkhand in domestic circuit. This year, the Jharkhand team had a phenomenal run in the Ranji Trophy. They made it to the semi-finals of the tournament for the first time in the history of Ranji Trophy.

In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Zonal T20 tournament, they did not have a very great outing. However, four of their players managed to get picked in the East Zone side for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Inter Zonal T20 tournament. Talking about the Vijay Hazare fixtures this year, Jharkhand is placed in Group D.

Jharkhand will play all group matches at Kolkata. They will take on Karnataka in the first match on 25th February. They will subsequently play Chhattisgarh, Services, Saurashtra, Hyderabad and Jammu & Kashmir.
