After being a part of Kolkata Knight Rider for many years, veteran Piyush Chawla was released by the franchise ahead of the thirteenth edition of the IPL. However, in the auction of IPL 2020, Chawla hogged many headlines after he was snapped up by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by a massive amount of INR 6.75 crores.

Chawla, who was also spotted in CSK’s training camp a few months ago, recently revealed that it was captain MS Dhoni who decided to sign him in the IPL 2020 auction. The leg-spinner recalled meeting Dhoni during the training camp and revealed that the CSK skipper was the one who decided to bring him to the franchise.

“We were having a camp in Chennai just before the IPL was supposed to start. So, I had a discussion with him regarding cricket, and that was like I asked him about the decision of me getting into CSK, and he told me that obviously it was my decision to take you to CSK,” Chawla said in a live chat with Shanivi Sadana on Sportskeeda.

I don’t know if Dhoni will play again or not: Piyush Chawla

Chawla added that he has a good understanding with Dhoni. ‘Captain Cool’ is known for backing his players and giving freedom to his bowlers to tweak with field placements. Furthermore, Dhoni even has a ‘Plan B’ under his sleeve if things go wrong for the bowler on a particular day.

Chawla further also opined on Dhoni’s international future and said that he has no idea if the veteran will play again for India or not. The Ranchi stalwart was last seen in action during India’s semi-final defeat against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup.

Dhoni was set to return to the pitch donning the yellow jersey for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020 but the much-awaited league was postponed in the wake of COVID-19. However, according to reports, the BCCI is trying its best to host the tournament in the latter part of the year.

“Well, that’s totally out of context for me because I don’t know if he will play again or not,” responded Chawla when asked about Dhoni’s international future.
