Indian limited-overs’ skipper MS Dhoni and his biopic seem to be defying the odds to become one of the most watched films in the country. While the buildup to the movie took most people through the ‘what to expect’ content, it seems as though the pre-production has been quite fantastic in galvanizing an audience for the film.

The film that released on the 30th of September (Friday), reportedly made a collection of around Rs. 20 Crore on the first day itself. While many have begun to expect the craze to die down a bit, it seems quite clear that the ticket sales are smashing records set by some of the best Indian films made to date.

A report from Bollywood Critic Taran Adarsh read that the MS Dhoni biopic passed the so-called ‘Monday Test’ with a massive collection of 8.51 Crore on the day. Although it did not match up with the 20 -30 crores collected on each day of the weekend, it is a massive amount given the fact that Monday is the universal start of the work week for most.

Adarsh, who is a prominent figure as a critic of these films released a tweet with the official finances and grossing of the film. His tweet read: “#MSDhoniTheUntoldStory has a STRONG Mon. Passes the ‘Mon test’… Fri 21.30 cr, Sat 20.60 cr, Sun 24.10 cr, Mon 8.51 cr. Total: 74.51 cr.”

The film traverses the struggle of incumbent Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his claim to fame in the short span of time he got his chance to. It also traverses the journey of almost becoming a ticket collector and an employee of the Indian railways to perhaps the most successful Indian skipper there is at the moment.
