MS Dhoni – The Untold Story was a massive hit among the audiences. The biopic based on the life of arguably India’s most successful captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was released on September 30 this year. The movie has now moved a level ahead by making it to the Oscars. The biopic is now officially in contention for bagging the most coveted award in the movie and entertainment industry – the Oscar award.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recently released a list of 336 movies for the Best Picture award category in the Oscars. The basic eligibility for the movie to make it to the list was to be of the running time of more than 40 minutes. MS Dhoni – The Untold Story was spanned close to 185 minutes and hence was eligible for making it to the list.

In addition to that, the other qualification was that the movie should have been played in a commercial movie theatre in Los Angeles County in the period between January 1 to December 31, 2016. The only other Indian movie to make it to the list was Sarbjit. Actor Randeep Hooda was widely appreciated for his role in the movie Sarbjit.

While Sarbjit was not a big commercial hit like MS Dhoni – The Untold Story, it was critically acclaimed. The biopic, on the contrary, was critically appreciated and also got great of response from the audiences. The movie saw Sushant Singh Rajput as the protagonist of the movie as he played the titular role of MS Dhoni.

It showcased the life and struggles of the Indian limited-overs captain. MS Dhoni has been one of the most successful leaders in world cricket. He is the only captain to have won all the three ICC major titles – the 50 over World Cup, the 20 over World Cup and the Champions Trophy. The movie also starred actress Kiara Advani as Dhoni’s wife Sakshi, Disha Patani as Dhoni’s first love interest and Herry Tangri as young Yuvraj Singh. Veteran actor Anumpam Kher donned the role of Dhoni’s father Paan Singh Dhoni.

It was a big hit and became the most successful grosser among all the biopics ever made in India. Sushant Singh received very positive responses for his stellar performance in the movie.
