MS Dhoni’s heroics earn Indian Army 20 lakhs: MS Dhoni’s charitable foundation has received 20000 pounds (20 lakhs) raised from the charity game between the Help for Heroes and and Rest of the World XI last week. Out of the 300,000 pound raised during this match, the Help for Heroes Foundation has contributed 20,000 pound towards Dhoni’s Charitable Foundation.
This amount will be eventually handed over to the Indian Army in support of the wounded and severely injured soldiers in the line of duty. India’s limited-overs captain Dhoni smashed the winning runs for his side Heroes XI in the much talked about game.
Following this inaugural fundraiser match at The Oval in London, The MS Dhoni Charitable Foundation has also partnered with The Help for Heroes foundation to replicate a series of similar charity matches in India over the coming years in order to raise more funds towards the support of the Indian Army. This also serves as an apt reply to those who were questioning Dhoni’s loyalty in playing for the British soldiers despite being an honorary colonel in the Para regiment of the Indian Army.
On his return to India after the match, Dhoni said, “The match was an excellent platform to support such a worthy cause. I feel honored to have been a part of it and look forward to supporting many more like these in the near future”.
The match saw big names from the world of cricket like Mahela Jayawardene, Brendon McCullum, Matthew Hayden and former England captain Andrew Strauss. They combined to provide wholesome entertainment to the 20,000 packed crowd in the stadium.
Dhoni has meanwhile begun preparations in Bengaluru for the South Africa tour, a long 72-day affair where he would be looking to set some records straight. While he is India’s most successful skipper without doubt his recent form with the bat hasn’t been great.
