The trend of bowlers with peculiar action bursting on the scene is not new in the world of cricket. Many bowlers have grabbed the eyeballs with their unusual run-up or bowling action. However, in a rare instance, an ambidextrous spinner Gregory Mahlokwana has grabbed the attention of many cricket fans including the coach of his franchise, former South Africa captain Ashwell Prince.

The 24-year-old took the social media by storm after he picked up a wicket with each hand during a Mzansi Super League clash on Sunday against Durban Heat. He first picked the wicket of Sarel Erwee, bowling with his right hand. Erwee was caught on the covers after he tried giving himself room and hit the ball over the off-side. Mohlokwana then castled Vilas who completely missed the trajectory of the ball. The spinner’s two wickets courtesy his ambidextrous skills have stunned many fans on social media.

The South African represents Cape Town Blitz in the MSL 2019. Mahlokwana, who bowls left-arm orthodox or right-arm off-spin, was snapped up for R100,000 by the Blitz in the players’ draft. His franchise coach Ashwell Prince also lauded the spinner’s ability to bowl economical spells in the powerplay.

“For me, it’s about the skill the player brings and the responsibility that he has been tasked with in the past. Bowling for the Titans at SuperSport Park, it’s a tough ground to bowl at. He bowls in the powerplay and his economy rate is quite good,” said Prince as quoted by SA Cricket Magazine.

Mahlokwana’s Titans’ head coach Mark Boucher had also praised the 24-year-old’s ambidextrous ability by calling him as a secret weapon of their side. “He uses both his arms’ which is a rarity’ and he is something special. In the past’ the Titans have produced international players but we have not produced enough young players and he is one of the few young players who will be given a chance to prove themselves. We are excited about him and he is something of a secret weapon,” said Boucher.

Gregory Mahlokwana has played 6 first-class matches

Mahlokawana made his debut for Titans in the 2018-19 season and played in the CSA T20 Challenge and One-Day Cup. The Pretoria-born spinner has played six matches in his first-class career, where he has amassed 122 runs while scalping 11 wickets.

Here are the two videos where ambidextrous Mahlokwana scalped wickets by bowling with both hands.
