Cricket Australia (CA) has now made an attempt to lure away the Aussie cricketers from the lucrative IPL by providing them multi-year central contracts according to the reports.

According to the claims by the Sunday Morning Herald, it is reported that CA’s Executive General Manager of the team Pat Howard made approaches to the players at a time when the governing body and the Australian Cricketers Association, are in dispute over a new pay deal for the players.

The CA wants to ensure that the key Australian players remain fresh during the International off-days in April and May when the cash-rich Indian Premier League is played and insisted there is nothing sinister behind this move.

The offer is made to the Australian captain Steve Smith, who currently is the captain of the franchise Rising Pune Supergiant, vice-captain David Warner, who is heading the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Alongside the pair, are the bowlers Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, who get the one-year contract. The players were surprised with the multi-year contract option that they got.

As per the reports, The terms of the multi-year deals discussed informally with Howard were viewed by the players as underwhelming, with the only perceived incentive for them missing the IPL being the security of a three-year contract which is not so lucrative.

If the CA achieves this, it would mean that David Warner they would have to provide them with the big cash incentive because of the IPL. The IPL franchises are paying them more than $1 million a year. Their earning capacity is set to increase and raise sharply after the new IPL broadcast deal.

Warner’s retainer with CA is estimated to be worth $2 million, but he could earn as much as $10 million in the IPL alone over the next three years. This is in line with the injuries to the players due to the intensity of the tournament, where the players have to put in double the work such as Starc and Hazlewood, who missed the tour to South Africa.
