After waiting for an eternity, Suryakumar Yadav finally got his chance. All the debates around him not being a part of the playing eleven in the first T20I were put to rest. It is now time for the Mumbai batsman to prove his worth. He had been selected on the back of three very successful IPL seasons where he scored in excess of 400 runs each time.

Along with him though his Mumbai Indians teammate, Ishan Kishan too got an opportunity to make his debut. The youngster had ended the IPL 2021 as the leading run-scorer for his franchise and the fifth-highest overall. He was given the opportunity to open the batting alongside KL Rahul as Rohit Sharma is still resting while Shikhar Dhawan has been dropped.

Will they make it to the T20 WC squad?

Though both the players have finally got an opportunity, the debate as to whether they fit in the scheme of things for the T20 World Cup later this year still remains. While fans are extremely happy with the inclusion of both the players it remains to be seen if they can perform at the highest level. If they are able to replicate their IPL form the team management will definitely be spoilt for choices.

While Yadav is playing in the middle order, Kishan is going to be opening the batting. The Indian middle-order did have one spot of concern but Shreyas Iyer’s inning in the first T20I puts him a touch ahead of the rest. It would take a combination of some great batting from SKY and some failures of Iyer to help the Mumbai Indians player get ahead in the race.

For Kishan, the problem seems a bit greater. While Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are India’s first-choice openers, Shikhar Dhawan’s recent form puts his spot under the scanner. The Delhi batsman’s plus point was being a left-hander and Ishan satisfies that criteria as well. Kishan also provides flexibility in the squad and another wicketkeeping option if required.

Experts, as well as fans, are super excited to see the duo get going. They have huge expectations on their shoulders and it would be interesting to see if they can live up to the hype. While the T20 WC is still far away their main aim would be to help India win the second T20I.
