Indian test opener Murali Vijay who has been in fine form with the bat turned 33 on Saturday and people from all around the globe wished him including some of his teammates. The Tamil Nadu man has been an integral part of the Indian team which finished a spectacular home season defeating the Aussies 2-1 at Dharamsala.
Vijay who was supposed to play a key role for the Kings XI Punjab in the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League, has now been ruled out from the elite tournament due to injury. Vijay’s absence will be a big loss for his franchise as he was supposed to give his team momentum at the top of the order. But Vijay received a whole lot of wishes on his birthday which would definitely cheer him up.
The player was wished by Indian team head coach Anil Kumble, his fellow Indian teammates and his franchise Kings XI Punjab. Suresh Raina, Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin and Virender Sehwag were among the players to wish the right handed batsman on his 34th birthday.
From a very young age Vijay dreamt of playing for his nation and making his country proud. Starting his career at the age of 17, the dependable batsman first featured for the men in blue in a test match against the mighty Aussies at the Vidarbha Cricket Association stadium in Nagpur.
Vijay got into the team as a replacement of two time IPL winning captain Gautam Gambhir who was handed a test match ban for elbowing Australian all-rounder Shane Watson during the previous test match at Ferozshah Kotla in Delhi.
Opening alongside hard hitting Indian opener Virender Sehwag, Vijay managed 33 and 41 in his test debut which India won by 172 runs. Though Vijay was called up for ODI’s first time in 2010 against the Proteas Vijay has struggled to keep himself in the team as far as the shorter versions of the game are concerned.
