Banking on the all-around offerings from the talented squad he has at his disposal, Mushfiqur Rahim’s team has outplayed the mighty Australians in the first Test match of the two-match series, here at the Sher-e-Bangla International Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. While the game was slightly tilted towards the hosts in the early stages, David Warner brought the baggy greens back in the driver’s seat.

At the end of Day 3, only the most optimistic fans would have predicted Australia to lose the match. But it has been a Shakib Al Hasan show ever since. The hugely experienced and one of the most prized assets of the team delivered when it was required the most. While he has well supported by his deputy Taijul Islam, skipper Mushfiqur Rahim is yet not happy with the performances of the two young spinners- Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Rahim feels that Shakib will not deliver on every single match and the two youngsters will have to step up now, looking at the enhanced standards of Bangladeshi cricket. “It is not like Shakib will do well in each and every Test match. When others like Miraz and Taijul will perform better, the task for Shakib would be easier. Although both of them did well in Dhaka, I want more from them. Because the wicket would not be like this always. They have done excellent jobs but I believe they have the capability to contribute better,” said Mushfiqur, as quoted by bdcrictime.com.

Bowlers will have to perform better

Even after the startling victory, Rahim wants his bowlers to increase their standards in the next match as the nature of wicket may vary with Mirpur’s wicket. “Half of their runs were scored by Warner. I know Bangladesh bowlers implemented their plans well but I also think they are capable to perform better regarding the nature of wicket,” he concluded.
