Controversy once again hits Pakistan Cricket as a Pakistani cricketer, Mustafa Bashir, who forced his wife to drink bleach and hit her with a bat was left without being jailed as he claimed to join a top cricket club. But Leicestershire County Cricket Club, the club which the cricketer spoke about completely denied any such negotiations with the player. Going by the words of the club no contract was offered to the player by the club.

According to the club’s spokesperson, Mustafa Bashir, the accused cricketer has not been in any kind of touch with the club and all these news of the cricketer set to sign for the club are completely made up. The spokesperson of Leicestershire County Cricket Club quoted, “The club are bemused by these stories. Any references to Mustafa Bashir signing or being approached to sign for Leicestershire County Cricket Club are completely false. The club have never spoken to Mustafa Bashir or an agent, nor offered a contract to the player.”

Bashir has been accused of ill-treating his wife Fakhara Karima who he got married to in the year 2013. But their relationship did not get along well as Bashir often showed his dominance over the lady. Also, Fakhara’s wearing of westernized dresses and talking to friends over the phone did not go down well with the cricketer and he physically abused Fakhara for the same.

In 2014 a shameful incident took place when Bashir held Fakhara by her throat in public and then let her go only after a passerby threatened to call the police. But the assault did not stop there as Bashir threatened his wife with a knife on reaching home and forced her to drink bleach in an attempt to kill her.

Bashir had admitted to two counts of assault of harming her wife at the Manchester City court. His defence solicitor told that he was to join a top cricket club as he was offered a contract by the same. The judge then suspended him for two years handing him a 18-month sentence and asked the cricketer to attend a workshop called “building better relationships,” he also had to pay 1000 pounds.

The judge also has to face a lot of criticism since the verdict as he said that Fakhara was not vulnerable as she was “an intelligent woman with a network of friends” and a degree.
