Leading the fightback against the West Indies in Sabina Park, Fawad Alam scored the fifth Test century of his career. Alam resumed his innings from 76 after he had retired hurt due to cramps on the first day. He played an impressive knock of unbeaten 124 runs to guide Pakistan to 302/9 before captain Babar Azam declared the innings.

Fawad Alam also became the fastest Test batter from Asia to score five Test centuries. He smashed five tons in just 22 innings, going past the record of Cheteshwar Pujara who reached the feat in 24 innings. This performance by Alam fetched him praises from the entire cricketing fraternity.

Alam was out of the national side for more than a decade. His form, however, made people question the board’s decision to exclude him from the side. When asked about how he felt when he is praised by people who were responsible for his omission from the national side, Alam stated that his job is to play cricket and perform for the national team.

“My job is to play cricket. If I start enjoying things that other people say or do, then my cricket will stop there. I am just thankful to Allah and nothing else. Everything is according to the will of Allah, and we have no power over anything. I just try to follow a straight path. Things happen in everyone’s career. Everyone has ups and downs. If you keep on the right path, then good things happen. If people are praising me then it is an honor for me,” Fawad Alam said in an interview with Cricket Pakistan.

Maybe if I was on the national side in the past, I might not have achieved everything I eventually did: Fawad Alam

Since his return to the Test cricket arena, Alam has been a pivotal aspect of the Pakistan team. When he couldn’t find his place on the national side, Alam went back to the domestic circuit to pile up runs.

His commendable performances in domestic cricket paved his way back to the national team. Alam thus highlighted his numbers in domestic cricket and expressed his gratefulness to the almighty.

“I have so many records in domestic cricket. I am on second after Hanif Mohammad in most statistics. How can I say that the last 10 to 11 years of my life were wasted? Allah has given me so many records during this time and I should be grateful for that.”

“Maybe if I was in the national side in the past, I might not have achieved everything I eventually did. Whatever Allah does for someone is good. We also pray to Allah to give us thing that are good for us and I think this was really good for me,” Alam concluded.
