Delhi Capitals’ head coach Ricky Ponting has talked about his pre-match ritual ahead of the match against Chennai Super Kings. Delhi opened its campaign for the IPL 2021 in Mumbai on Saturday. The former Australian captain revealed that he always makes a point to get a clean shave before a match.

The head coach of the Capitals was recently seen in a video giving a talk to his team. After the video was uploaded on Twitter, people on the micro-blogging site started comparing Ricky with the character of Kabir Khan, which was played by Shah Rukh Khan in the movie Chak de India. In that movie, the Bollywood actor played the role of a hockey team coach, where he was seen giving talks to his team as well.

Capitals’ social media team added another video of Ponting in which the caption addressed this comparison. It read, “The only difference between @RickyPonting and Kabir Khan is that the latter had a stubble on Matchday.” In the video, the Delhi coach revealed that his wife will probably divorce him if she sees him with a beard, which is why he has ensured that gets a shave before a match.

Ricky Ponting opens on his pre-match ritual

“If I do (keep his stubble), my wife will see me on television once, and she will probably divorce me if she sees that. I’ll be having a shave over the next couple of days. Make sure when the game day comes around… It’s always a ritual of mine anyway. I’m not sure if you guys have ever noticed this, but I’m clean-shaven the night before every game. So I’ll be having a shave for sure,” the former Australian captain said in the video uploaded by Delhi Capitals on their social media pages.

At the time of writing this, Delhi is playing their opening match against Chennai at the Wankhede Stadium. Sam Curran’s late hitting along with brilliantly constructed fifty by Suresh Raina, ensured CSK reached 188 for 7 in their 20 overs. In return, Delhi has started the classic show and are playing on 54 runs without any loss.
