N.Srinivasan sacked as ICC chairman; Shashank Manohar to continue his term: In an attempt to reform its beat-up image, the BCCI has taken important steps in its 85th Annual General Meeting in Mumbai.
One such step being the removal of former BCCI president N.Srinivasan as chairman of the ICC. The decision was taken at the BCCI Annual General Meeting on Monday in Mumbai. Consequently, Shashank Manohar has been appointed as the new ICC chairman. The BCCI will now recommend this change to ICC.
Srinivasan was elected for a two-year term. However, this tenure will now be completed by current BCCI president Shashank Manohar, who will now head the world body’s Executive Committee until June 2016.
With this decision, Tamil Nadu strongman N.Srinivasan’s grip over the cricket administration has become very weak, largely due to getting charged in the conflict of interest by Supreme court
Apart from that, Appointment of the Ombudsman or Ethics Officer, was one of the key changes that had been proposed in the BCCI’s Memorandum of Rules and Regulations to be taken up at the AGM.
The Ombudsman is going to be appointed “to deal with the complaints of Conflict of Interest and any act of indiscipline or misconduct or violation of any of the Rules and Regulations of the Board by an administrator,” as per the wordings of the clause that has been proposed to be taken up at the AGM.
The AGM is expected to put in place strict compliance protocols to the Conflict of Interest regulations in the wake of the Supreme Court’s cracking of the whip on this matter.
