The newly appointed Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been in a splendid form in recent times. The dynamic batsman had an excellent year of 2016 across all the three formats of the game. Under his leadership, the team is still undefeated in Test cricket. India reached the top of the Test rankings under his captaincy.

No wonder why he was the obvious choice to lead India in all three formats of the game after MS Dhoni stepped down from the post recently. As per quotes in NDTV, Virat spoke about the prospects of captaincy at an event. He said that leading the team is quite surreal. He never expected that this day would come.

“It is quite surreal. I never thought this day is going to come to my life. When I came to the team, I was always looking to perform, get more opportunities and build solid consistent career and contribute to the team in winning games. I feel everything is God sent. Anything happens to you, happens for a reason and happens at a right time in your life,” said Virat Kohli.

This is not the first time Kohli is leading a side. He has been a good leader for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL and had earlier led the India U19s to a title win in the U19 World Cup in 2008. Speaking about leading India, Kohli called it a different thing altogether. He said that the pressure comes along with it but what matters is the added responsibility. He was quick to cite that he thrives under pressure.

“But being captain of India is whole different ball game all together. As they mention it, it is the hot seat in all different ways such as the attention, the praise, criticisms, all these things come along with it. But one thing comes along with this is the responsibility and that makes me a better cricketer and a better person as I learn about life through this experiences, so I take it as an opportunity,” mentioned the Indian skipper.

Talking about his most memorable moments in cricket career, Kohli pointed out the World Cup win in 2011 as the best on from team point of view. On a personal note, he cherished the match against Australia at Mohali in ICC World T20 2016 and the double ton against England at Mumbai recently.

“On personal ground, the most exhilarating moment was hitting the double century in Mumbai recently (against England) and playing against Australia in Mohali during (2016) T20 World Cup,” Kohli conceded.
