New Zealand retain 3rd spot in ICC ODI rankings: Courtesy their series win against hosts Zimbabwe on Friday, in Harare, New Zealand have retained their number 3 spot in the latest ICC ODI rankings. The Kiwi side though lost 2 rating points. Kane Williamson’s men have dropped down to 110 points, five behind India and one ahead of South Africa. The Men in Black will face the Proteas in a 3 Match ODI series later this month.
As a consequence of the series defeat, Zimbabwe remains at the 11th place but has gained two rankings points on tenth-placed Ireland, who lies on 50 points.
Black Caps captain Williamson was the highest run-getter in the series and his tally of 187 runs in two innings (featuring scores of 97 and 90) has boosted the 25-year-old three places to a career high 4th. Ross Taylor remains on eighth place but has gained seven points after scoring 112 not out (his 15th century in 50-over internationals) in his only innings of the series.
It was also a productive series for a number of Zimbabwe batsmen with Sean Williams moving up five places to 51st, while there were also gains for Hamilton Masakadza (up one to 57th), Sikandar Raza (up 12 places to 58th) and Chamu Chibhabha (up three places to 86th). Craig Ervine was the home side’s leading run-getter and his tally of 174 runs has ensured a gain of 17 places to a career best 76.
NZ’s ace bowler Mitchell McClenaghan has vaulted nine places to 39th after taking four wickets for 138 in the three games, Nathan McCullum after picking up 5 wickets has moved up 8 places to 44.
