New Zealand were the clear favorites against Bangladesh coming into the T20I series. They had convincingly beaten the visitors in the ODI series. However, very few had expected that the Kiwis will end up whitewashing the Bangla tigers in the T20I series as well. The series kickstarted in a great fashion for the Kiwis and it continued to be in the same way for long. They had a modest 141 to chase in the series opener and skipper Kane Williamson was at his best on the day.

The next two matches saw some splendid hitting by the Kiwi players. The second T20I was all about Colin Munro. The attacking Kiwi southpaw blasted a quick ton that gave Bangladesh no sniff in the match. In the match that followed, it was Corey Anderson’s heroics that helped the hosts post in excess of 190 on the board. The bowling was up to the mark as well. No wonder why the scoreline proudly read 3-0 for the hosts New Zealand.

So how did the individual players fare up? Here is the New Zealand team rating for the New Zealand v Bangladesh T20I series 2017:

Neil Broom – 2/10

Neil Broom came into the T20Is after a brilliant ODI series. He had singlehandedly tormented the Bangladeshi bowlers in the ODIs. But the comeback man played just one match in the T20 series. He could not make an impact in the game.

He scored 6 off 7 balls before being dismissed by Rubel Hossain in the first match. He did not feature in the following two matches. Luckily for the Kiwi side, his failure did not impact their performance.

Kane Williamson – 9/10

Kane Williamson was the captain fantastic of the series. He finished as the leading run-scorer of the series with 145 runs to his name in 3 matches at an average of 72.50. He hit two fifties in the series.

He played a guiding knock of unbeaten 73 off 55 balls in the first match. And then ended the series with a gutsy 60 off 57 balls in the final game. His captaincy was spot on right through the series.

Colin Munro – 8.5/10

The only centurion of the series, Colin Munro had a dream match in the second game. He had scored a duck in the first and had a lot to prove. He came up with a blitzkrieg knock of 101 off mere 54 balls with 7 fours and 7 sixes that set the stage for Kiwi win.

But he got another duck in the final game. All his rating points are solely for the century that he came up with. He certainly covered up for the two ducks.

Corey Anderson – 7.5/10

Corey Anderson was having a quiet series in the middle. His batting and bowling looked lackluster until the final T20. He scored 13 and 4 in the first two matches. He saved his best for the final game as he plundered 94 runs off just 41 balls with 2 fours and a 10 huge sixes.

Surprisingly enough, Anderson was not handed the ball in the series. Playing as a specialist batsman, he did a fair job at the top.

Tom Bruce – 7/10

Tom Bruce was the new face who came to international cricket this season. The dynamic middle-order batsman did not disappoint with the bat by any means. He aggregated 71 runs in the three matches and averaged close to 35.

After being run out on 7 in the first game, he came good in the next. He scored an unbeaten 59 off just 39 balls with 5 fours and a six to his name. The unbeaten fifty gets him a rating of 7 for chipping in at the right time.

Colin de Grandhomme – 6/10

The all-rounder was a revelation in the Test series against Pakistan recently. He showed his prowess with the bat in the limited overs series against Bangladesh now. The Zimbabwe-born cricketer scored an unbeaten 41 off just 22 balls in the first T20I.

Although he could not back it up with big scores thereafter, he ensured that he did his part with the ball. Much to the disliking, though, the bowler who scalped a six-for on Test debut, went on to pick just 1 wicket in the 3 T20Is.

Luke Ronchi – 2/10

Wicketkeeper-batsman Luke Ronchi had a very mild outing in the series. He did not get an opportunity to bat in the first match. In the next game, he was promoted to open the innings.

This yielded no rewards as he managed a duck. He was injured thereafter and was replaced by Tom Blundell for the final match. On the wicket-keeping front, although he had no major blips, there was nothing much to show either – just a solitary catch in the series.

Tom Blundell – 3/10

Tom Blundell made his T20I debut for New Zealand in the final T20 of the series. He came in place of injured Luke Ronchi who played the first two matches of the series. Blundell looked tidy behind the stumps on the day.

He did not get an opportunity to show his prowess with the bat. A hard-hitting batsman, Blundell, had recently led his domestic side Wellington to the championship win in Super Smash T20.

Mitchell Santner – 7/10

Mitchell Santner has been a regular member of the New Zealand team for quite some time now. His left arm spin has come in handy for skipper Kane Williamson. Santner finished with 3 wickets in the series. He was the most economical bowler of the series among all front line bowlers.

His economy rate was that of only 6.45. He picked up 1/20 in the first game and then followed it up with 1/14 in the next. The final match saw him return with figures of 1/37, which was on the higher side of the economy.

Ben Wheeler – 6/10

Ben Wheeler was impressive throughout the series. He emerged as the most successful pacer for the New Zealand team. He scalped 4 wickets in 3 matches at an average of just 16.75. He had the best economy among all pace bowlers in the series – 6.59.

His best effort came in the second match when he bagged 2/16. Earlier, he had scalped 2/22 in the first match. Ben Wheeler looks like a good prospect for the black caps in the longer run.

Lockie Ferguson – 7/10

Lockie Ferguson shot to fame when he scalped two wickets in the first two balls of his T20I debut in the first match. Ferguson came in with a reputation of a bowler who ticked 150kmph at ease. He did exactly that to scalp 3/32 in the only match that he played in the series.

He averaged 10.66, the best among all pacers in the two sides. He bowled with a strike rate of 8 which remains to be best among all bowlers in the series. Ferguson did not feature in the matches that followed.

Matt Henry – 3/10

While the young and new pacers impressed in the series, the senior bowler Matt Henry was nowhere close to being impressive. Henry played just one match in the series and was beaten badly by the Bangladeshi batsman.

He played in the first match of the series. He made a brilliant start as he dismissed the Bangladesh opener Imrul Kayes for a duck in his very first over. However, he was then taken for a toll of 44 runs thereafter as he finished with 1/44 in his 4 overs.

Trent Boult – 4/10

Trent Boult has been spearheading the New Zealand bowling attack for a long time now. But his demons of T20 cricket continued to haunt him in this series as well. Boult did not feature in the starting eleven in the first match.

He then came in at the expense of Lockie Ferguson in the side. He bagged 3 wickets in the next two matches that he played. He started off on a decent note with 1/28 in the second match. But then he found himself leaking 47 runs for his two wickets in the final match of the series.

Ish Sodhi – 7/10

The young leggie grabbed the opportunities that he got in the series. He was not a part of the first match but played the next two. He finished as the leading spinner in the series with 5 wickets to his name.

He was impressive in the second match as he bagged 3/36 in his 4 overs. The higher economy comes in as a package with a leggie anyway. In the next match, he improved the economy to scalp 2/22 in his four overs.
