As expected New Zealand has won the T20I series against Sri Lanka after winning the Test and ODI series earlier. Only positive for Sri Lanka in this match was Angelo Mathews’ performance who has made 81 runs from 49 balls in 1st innings in which Sri Lanka has made 142 runs at the loss of eight wickets. Grant Elliott picked up four wickets for New Zealand to restrict Sri Lanka under 150 and M Santner and Milne provided him support by picking up two wickets each.

While chasing 143 runs, New Zealand’s duo of Martin Guptill and Colin Munro created and broken many records. Guptill made 63 runs while Munro scored 50* runs in 14 balls which is second fastest fifty in T20I scored by any batsman after India’s Yuvraj Singh and in the absence of experienced Nuwan Kulasekara, Sri Lankan bowlers looked hapless as New Zealand chased the target of 143 runs inside 10 overs and became the first team to achieve target of more than 110 runs in 10 overs in T20Is.

Here are the Statistical Highlights of the NZ v SL 2nd T20I, 2016:

14 – Number of balls Colin Munro played to reach to his fifty in today’s T20 match against Sri Lanka which is the second fastest fifty by any batsman in T20Is after Yuvraj Singh. Yuvraj had smashed fastest fifty in T20I against England in the T20 World Cup of 2007 in just 12 balls. This fifty is also the fastest fifty by any New Zealand batsman in T20I and second fastest fifty by a left handed batsman in T20Is. In his innings of 50 from 14 balls, Munro smashed seven sixes and one four at a strike rate of 357.14.

19 – Number of balls taken by Martin Guptill to reach his fifty in today’s match against Sri Lanka which is second fastest fifty by any New Zealand batsman in T20Is after Colin Munro who smashed fastest fifty in the same match in just 14 balls. Martin Guptill’s fifty in 19 balls also in the category of third fastest fifty by a right-handed batsman in T20Is after Ireland’s Paul Stirling (17 balls) and Australia’s Glenn Maxwell (18 balls). Martin Guptill scored 63 runs in 25 balls by hitting six fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 252.00.

357.14 – Strike rate at which Munro has scored his 50 runs in 14 balls which is the second highest strike rate in any innings of T20Is in which the batsman scored more than 29 runs. Yuvraj Singh holds the record for the highest strike rate in an innings among batsmen who have scored more than 30 runs in an innings of T20Is. Yuvraj had scored his 58 runs in 16 balls at a strike rate of 414.28 against England on 19 September, 2007. This strike rate of Colin Munro is highest among New Zealand batsmen who have scored more than 28 runs in a T20I innings.

5th – Martin Guptill became the 5th batsman who has hit more than 50 sixes as an opener in T20Is. He has hit 51 sixes in 37 matches while playing for New Zealand. Other four openers who have hit more than 50 sixes in T20Is are Chris Gayle (87 sixes), David Warner (66 sixes), Shane Watson (61 sixes) and Brendon McCullum (54 sixes).

6th – Martin Guptill became 6th batsman who has hit more than 100 fours and 50 sixes in T20I. He has hit 139 fours and 51 sixes in 37 matches while playing for New Zealand. Other five batsmen who have hit more than 100 fours and 50 sixes are Brendon McCullum (199 fours, 91 sixes), Chris Gayle (122 fours, 87 sixes), David Warner (137 fours, 66 sixes), Eoin Morgan (108 fours, 53 sixes) and JP Duminy (114 fours, 51 sixes).

1st – New Zealand became the first team to achieve the target of more than 110 runs in 10 overs in T20Is. New Zealand has achieved the target of 143 runs in just 10 overs with nine wickets remaining.

81 – Number of runs scored by Angelo Mathews today in the 2nd T20I match against New Zealand which is his highest individual score in T20Is. He scored 81 runs in 49 balls with seven fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 165.31.

37 – Number of sixes hit by Martin Guptill in 2nd innings of  matches that he played which is second most by any batsman after Shane Watson who has hit 38 sixes in 2nd innings of T20I matches in which he played for Australia. Martin Guptill has batted 29 times in 2nd innings in T20I matches and hit 37 sixes.

1st – Grant Elliott became first New Zealand bowler who has taken four wickets in an innings of a match against Sri Lanka in T20Is. In this match, he grabbed four wickets by giving 22 runs in four overs at an economy rate of 5.50.

28 – Number of catches taken by Martin Guptill as a fielder in the format which is sixth most by any fielder in T20Is. Ross Taylor (41), AB de Villers (37), Umar Akmal (32), DJ Bravo (30) and David Warner (29) are ahead of him while JP Duminy and Darren Sammy with 28 catches share the position with Guptill.

8.57 – Economy rate at which Thisara Perera has given his runs in T20Is which is fourth worst economy rate among bowlers who have played minimum of 25 matches for their respective countries. Thisara Perera has given 726 runs at an economy rate of 8.57 in 42 matches. J Dernbach (8.71), Jacob Oram (8.71) and Tim Southee (8.62) are ahead of him in that list.

8 – Number of fifties scored by Martin Guptill in T20Is as an opener of New Zealand is the most by any New Zealand opener along with Brendon McCullum who has also made eight fifties in T20I cricket. Martin Guptill has made eight fifties in 37 matches as an opener while McCullum has made eight fifties in 41 matches as an opener of New Zealand.
