England might have many forgettable events in the past at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington but they will cherish the memories of the thrilling ODI game for a long time as they took a 2-1 lead in the 5-match ODI series. England spinners took quick wickets in the middle overs to put the team on the top but Kane Williamson fought till the end to towards the target of 235. The New Zealand skipper scored an unbeaten 112-run knock but scored only ten runs in the final over when they needed 15 runs.

1England’s win in this game is their first win at the Wellington’s Westpac Stadium. They featured in four ODIs before this game losing in which they lost by huge margins.


5 – Number of wickets for England spinners in this game. Moeen Ali bagged three wickets while Adil Rashid took two. These are the joint most number of wickets for England spinners in an ODI in New Zealand. Five wickets went the England spinners in the 1984 ODI also played in Wellington.


8 – A total of eight spinners in this game; three each by Moeen and Ish Sodhi and two for Rashid. These are the most number of wickets for spinners in an ODI in New Zealand in the last six years.


112* – The 112-run knock by Kane Williamson is the highest unbeaten innings for New Zealand in an unsuccessful ODI run-chase. Bruce Edgar scored an unbeaten 102 when they lost to Australia by six runs in 1981 B&H World Series Cup Final.

The 112-run innings is also the joint highest unbeaten innings for any captain in an unsuccessful ODI chase. Upul Tharanga carried his bat scoring 112 against Pakistan in the 2017 Abu Dhabi ODI.


133 – Balls needed for Kane Williamson to score his century. This is his slowest century in the ODI format and also the joint 2nd slowest ODI ton for New Zealand in last ten years. Martin Guptill needed 134 balls for his century against South Africa in 2015 while Ross Taylor also took 133 balls for a hundred against Pakistan in 2014.


234 – The total of 234 in this game by England is the lowest defended successfully by them in an ODI since the 171/10 against South Africa in the 2011 CWC match played in Chennai. The 235-run target is also the lowest New Zealand failed to chase in a full 50-over game since the 175 against Bangladesh in the 2010 Dhaka ODI.


2002 – For the first time since 2002, New Zealand lost a home ODI while chasing against England. Prior to this game, New Zealand won seven out of their previous eight home ODIs while chasing against England with another game ending in a Tie.


5097 – Kane Williamson became the 6th New Zealand player to complete 5000 runs in the ODI format. He is the quickest among the six players taking 119 innings for the milestone and the 5th fastest in the World to reach the milestone.
