For the 2nd time in two matches this year, both New Zealand and England were featured in a tied game where the trophy was up for the grabs. Once again, it was England who walked with the series title after a thrilling super over. The final game of the 5-match T20I series in Auckland was reduced to 11 overs each.

The home team finished with 146/5 thanks to a fierce start from their opener. England finished with 146/7 despite losing wickets here and there. Chris Jordan, who hit the last ball for a boundary to Tie the game, conceded only 8 runs in the super over after England made 17 runs with two sixes.

All the statistical highlights from the series-decider that ended in a Tie at the Eden Park:

New Zealand and T20I Ties:

6 – As many as six T20I matches featuring New Zealand ended in a Tie; easily the most number of Tied games for any team. Ireland and West Indies are next on this list with three Tied games.

In those six Tied games, New Zealand won the super over on two instances and lost three times. They also won the bowl out which they featured in.

Yet another high-scoring game in Auckland:

13.27 – The run-rate of 13.27 in this match is the highest in any T20 International that lasted at least 20 overs. The last year’s T20I between New Zealand and Australia also hosted by Auckland’s Eden Park witnessed 488 runs scored in 38.5 overs at a rate of 12.56.

3 – The Eden Park in Auckland became the first venue in T20I history to host three Tied matches. The other two Tied T20Is at this venue were played between New Zealand and West Indies in 2006 and 2008. The Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka is the only other venue to host more than one Tied T20I.

Munro @ 100:

100 – Number of sixes Colin Munro has struck in T20I cricket thus far. He became only the 2nd New Zealand player and the 4th player overall to have hit 100+ sixes in T20Is.

A good series for Santner and Morgan:

11 – Mitchell Santner finished with 11 wickets in this series; the joint-most number of wickets for any bowler in a bilateral T20I series. Ashan Malik claimed 11 wickets during the 4-match series against Nepal in 2015 while Rashid Khan also bagged 11 wickets during this year’s 3-match series against Ireland.

192 – Eoin Morgan finished the series with 192 runs; the most by any captain in a bilateral series. The England skipper thus went past Kane Williamson’s tally of 175 runs in the home 3-match series against Pakistan in 2016.

A quick-fire partnership:

16.06 – Colin Munro and Martin Guptill’s partnership of 83 came in only 31 balls at a run rate of 16.06. Only two fifty-plus opening stands had a run rate more than that of Munro-Guptill’s partnership.

Tony Ura and N Vanua of Papua New Guinea added 60* off 3 overs at a rate of 20 runs against Vanuatu this year. During the 2009 WT20 game against Scotland, another New Zealand opening pair of Brendon McCullum and Jesse Ryder added 51 off just 17 balls at a run rate of 18.

Yet another Tie featuring Taylor:

8 – Ross Taylor now has been part of 8 International matches that ended in a Tie; the most by any player. Brendon McCullum and MS Dhoni were involved in seven Tied Internationals during their careers. Aamer Sohail and Wasim Akram were involved in six Tied Internationals and two other Tied matches in the 1980s when the team losing fewer wickets was declared as the winner in case of a Tie.
