India Women began their tour of New Zealand with a big win in the first ODI of the series at the McLean Park in Napier like the Men’s team on Wednesday. A collective bowling effort from the visiting side saw the White Ferns getting restricted to just 192. The run chase was made to look easy as the Indian opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues added 190 runs for the first wicket. Mandhana scored a 104-ball 105 before getting out when they needed three runs to win while Rodrigues remained unbeaten on 81.

Mandhana scoring tons everywhere:

1 – Smriti Mandhana became the first Indian Woman to score an ODI century in New Zealand. The previous highest ODI score in this country by an Indian Woman was 98 by Mithali Raj in the 2003 Lincoln ODI against England.


2 – Smriti is only the second player in Women’s ODI history to score a century in each of Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand. The other player to achieve this is Claire Taylor of England.


4 – Mandhana scored centuries in four away countries in this format. She is only the 5th player in Women’s ODI cricket and the first from India to score centuries in four different away countries. Suzie Bates scored centuries in five countries away from home while Claire Taylor, Meg Lanning, and Sophie Devine scored an away ton in four different nations.


4 – Mandhana is only the 2nd Indian to score centuries in four different countries in Women’s ODI cricket. Mithali Raj was the first Indian having scored ODI tons in India, England, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.


Mandhana goes past Kaur and levels Mithali:

4 – Smriti scored her 4th century in ODI cricket; the 2nd most by an Indian Women in this format. Mithali Raj leads the list with seven ODI hundreds while Harmanpreet Kaur stands at 3rd with three tons.


4 – Each of Mandhana’s four ODI centuries came away from home; the joint-most by any Indian Women outside India. Mithali Raj also has four of her seven ODI tons coming away from India. No other Indian Woman has scored more than two ODI tons outside home.


105 – Smriti became only the 2nd Indian Woman after Mithali Raj to score a century against New Zealand. Mithali scored 109 during the 2017 CWC match against them in Derby.


Deepti Sharma ahead of Kapil Dev:

1 – Deepti Sharma is only the 2nd Indian Woman after Jhulan Goswami to score 1000 runs and bag 50 wickets in ODI cricket. She is overall the 14th Indian to do this double in ODI cricket across Men’s and Women’s cricket.

Among the 14 players, Deepti Sharma is the quickest to this double taking only 43 matches. The previous quickest to this double was Kapil Dev in 46 matches.


43 – Matches Deepti Sharma needed for completing her all-round double of 1000 runs and 50 wickets in ODI cricket. She is the 2nd fastest among the 23 players in Women’s ODI cricket to this double. Only Stafanie Taylor (40) got this double in fewer matches than Deepti.


A record partnership:

190 – The 190-run opening stand between Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues is the highest opening partnership in Women’s ODI cricket by any pair against New Zealand.

The previous highest opening partnership in Women’s ODIs against the White Ferns was 163* by the Australian pair of S Nitschke and LJ Poulton in 2010 Melbourne ODI.


18y 141d – At the age of 18 years and 141 days, Jemimah Rodrigues became the 4th youngest Indian Woman to score an ODI fifty. Only Thirush Kamini (16y 138d), Mithali Raj (16y 205d) and Smriti Mandhana (17y 187d) were younger than Rodrigues when they made their maiden ODI fifty. In Men’s cricket, only Sachin Tendulkar was younger among Indians than Rodrigues to make an ODI fifty.
