New Zealand Women made a brilliant comeback in the first T20I against the India Women to go 1-0 up in the 3-match T20I series. During the first T20I in Wellington, the visiting side was cruising at 102 in the 12th over for the loss of just one wicket in the 160-run target. Smriti Mandhana’s quick-fire fifty and her partnership with Jemimah Rodrigues brought down the required rate to almost six an over.
The middle-order played rash shots and cost the game that India had in their hands. The collapse once again brought back the talks of including the ODI captain Mithali Raj in the T20I XI. However, the T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur made it clear that the management wanted to give a chance for the youngsters in the squad in the overseas conditions ahead of Mithali.
