The Bangladesh team stunned everyone when they chased down a mammoth target set by Sri Lanka in the 3rd game of the Nidahas Trophy. The game was a run-fest as both the teams managed to score above 200. The Bangla Tigers were set a target of 215 by the Lankans and not many fancied Bangladesh to chase it down halfway through the innings. The team was low on morale and were on a losing streak before pulling this one off.
Furthermore, this is also the 4th highest chase ever in a T20I game. This victory will definitely lift up the confidence of the team and they’ll wish to carry it on from here. The tournament is now beautifully set up with all the teams winning one game each so far. However, Sri Lanka is still atop of the points table courtesy their good net run rate. They are followed by India and Bangladesh who have a negative NRR.
‘We badly needed this win’: Mushfiqur Rahim
Mushfiqur Rahim, who was the chief architect of Bangladesh’s win seemed to be delighted after the victory. He stayed in the middle till the end and ensured he hit the winning runs. He was seen celebrating wildly and also put some dancing skills on display. Despite carrying an injury, he managed to score 72 off just 35 balls and was adjudged the ‘Man of the Match’.
Although the team had a slow start to their innings, they recovered quickly. Rahim said that he would dedicate the ‘Man of the Match’ award to his 35-days old son speaking at the post-match presentation. He also said that the team needed this victory very badly. Furthermore, he opined that the bowlers conceded too many runs and felt that they should have restricted them to something around 190.
“We badly needed that win. Can’t ask much more than this. Gave away too many runs. 190 would have been chaseable. Liton and Tamim were outstanding to set it up. Dedicate this knock to my son, who’s only 35 days old. At the end of the day, the result is the most important thing. It was just a cramp. Hopefully, I will recover soon,” he signed off.
