No one from Indian team is involved in the rape case: Anurag Thakur

A day after the Indian team’s upsetting defeat against Zimbabwe another shocking news arrived from the country when reports appeared that a member of the Indian team has been arrested from the team hotel on charges of rape. It was brushed aside as rumors soon by more reports and the matter didn’t gain enough leverage. While it was still not sure whether the arrested individual was a member of the Indian contingent or not BCCI president Anurag Thakur rubbished the reports and said that ‘there is no truth to these allegations’.

Thakur was quoted by ANI saying, “There is no truth in this allegation. No one from Indian team is involved in the incident,”

It was also learnt that India’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe R Masakui made his way to the hotel to pacify the incident and make sure it doesn’t grow into a damaging controversy. Masakui later confirmed that there was no cricketer involved in the incident. He said, “No cricket team member is involved in the incident.”

However, he did accept that two Indian nationals have been detained in the alleged rape case but did not reveal the identities. “However, 2 Indian nationals have been detained. We are seeking consular access to these 2 persons,” he further added.

Ministry of External Affairs of India also clarified that no cricketers were involved in the incident. MAE source was quoted by ANI saying, “Report is false, no Indian cricketer involved. An Indian affiliated with one of the sponsors has been arrested, he denied the charge and said he is ready for a DNA test to prove his innocence,”
