Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer suffered a shoulder injury in the month of March in a limited-overs match against the England side, and since then, the 25-year-old has been out of action. And, after a lengthy injury layoff, the right-hander will make a return to professional cricket in the second half of the IPL that will commence on 19th September 2021.

And, Shreyas Iyer has now opened up on his comeback. Iyer opined that it is a great opportunity for him to play the IPL after returning back from injury. The IPL will be followed by the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup, and Iyer reckoned that the IPL and the T20 World Cup are two of the biggest tournaments that an Indian cricketer can participate in.

The right-handed batsman further added that the four months that he spent away from the game propelled him to work harder. Iyer even stated that he will not have any rest days from now on, and he is eagerly looking forward to the cricket season ahead.

“It’s a great opportunity, especially after coming back from an injury to play in the IPL. After that the World Cup. These are the two biggest tournaments for an Indian cricketer to play at. We have always dreamed of being part of such an amazing time.

All these moments… the last four months. It has basically fuelled and propelled my mindset to keep working harder and smarter. No rest days for me at this point of time. Really looking forward to the matches which I am going to play right now,” said Iyer as quoted by India Today.

I don’t compare myself with others: Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer also added that he does not like to compare himself with others, as there is so much competition in Indian cricket. Stating that his performances in the last few years have been ‘awesome’, the right-hander added that he wants to perform beyond his abilities. Iyer concluded by stating that he is ready to do anything to find a spot in the Indian side.

“It’s you vs you always. And I don’t compare myself to others. Obviously, there are many players who are there to take my position and there is so much competition but if I look at my performance in the last few years, it has been awesome. I just want to keep going beyond my abilities. Every day I am looking to become the best version of myself. I will do anything to be in the team and make sure my team wins. That’s my mindset at this point of time,” concluded Shreyas Iyer.
