Cricket South Africa, the majority of South African cricket fans and the entire cricketing fraternity around the world has been concerned about this man’s fitness for the last 6 months or so. Ever since AB de Villiers injured his elbow he has been out of action and now that he is fully fit and ready for a comeback he has made it clear that his primary target is to be at his best for the 2019 World Cup and is willing to make sacrifices to ensure that.

A day after AB quashed reports that he was planning on retiring from Tests the 32-year-old has ruled himself out of the Test series on South Africa’s tour of England later this year and will also skip the two-Test series against Bangladesh. He might make a comeback in the whites for the 2017-18 season for the home series against India and Australia.

He also made it clear that he won’t play all the domestic T20 leagues around the world and will just stick to the Indian Premier League where he represents the Royal Challengers Bangalore. “I’m just not ready yet,” de Villiers said during a media interaction in Centurion. ” I’m aware of my elbow. The surgeon said it will be normal. I’m feeling really confident.”

Earlier explaining his idea AB had said, “My main aim is to get to the 2019 World Cup and I want to do anything possible to get there. We haven’t lifted a trophy before. Yes, it’s important to play the other formats but mentally and physically I need to be in a good space come 2019 World Cup and that’s what I am aiming for. It’s still a long way away it’s all about managing that well in order for me to get there,”

“I am not retiring out of Test cricket, that’s for sure; I am not retiring out of any format. I want to play as much as possible in order for me to play the 2019 World Cup.”
