New Zealand stands nine wickets away from yet another Test victory at home thanks to a brilliant double century by their skipper Kane Williamson. Resuming the day on 112, Williamson finished with 238 as New Zealand piled on a huge total of 659/6 before declaring the innings. Henry Nicholls (157) and Daryl Mitchell (102*) made crucial contributions to New Zealand’s total who extended their lead to 362 runs. Pakistan team batted 11 overs before the stumps where they made only eight runs for the loss of Shan Masood’s wicket.

Here are all the statistical highlights from New Zealand’s run-feast during the 3rd day’s play:

A record double century for Captain Kane:

4 – Kane Williamson became only the 2nd player after Brendon McCullum (4) to score as many as four double centuries in Test cricket. Three of Williamson’s four 200s came while leading the team making him the 3rd captain with as many as three Test 200s for New Zealand after Stephen Fleming (3) and Brendon McCullum (3).

238 – Kane Williamson’s 238 is now the highest individual score for New Zealand in Test cricket against Pakistan. The previous highest was 204* by Matthew Sinclair in the 2001 Christchurch Test match.

238 – Williamson’s 238-run knock is also the highest individual score by a captain in a home Test match against Pakistan. Ricky Ponting’s 209 in the 2010 Hobart Test was the previous highest such score. As many as three players recorded a higher Test score than Williamson while leading the team against Pakistan but all those three came in either Pakistan or UAE.


A big total for New Zealand:

659/6 – New Zealand’s total of 659/6 is now their 5th highest total in Test cricket and the 2nd biggest against Pakistan behind the 690/10 in the 2014 Sharjah Test. This is also the first time New Zealand posted 600+ at home against Pakistan and also the first-ever 600+ total at the Hagley Oval.


Williamson’s day of milestones:

1 – Kane Williamson became the first player to aggregate 2000+ runs in Test cricket as captain on New Zealand soil when he went past his individual score of 118. He also became the 2nd New Zealand captain after Stephen Fleming (5156) to complete 3000 Test runs when he went past his individual score of 160.

144 – Williamson is now only the 3rd player after Stephen Fleming and Ross Taylor to reach 7000 Test runs. He got to the milestone when he got past his individual score of 123 on 3rd day morning, Kane is now the fastest New Zealand player and the 12th quickest overall to reach 7000 Test runs needing only 144 innings.

15011 – Kane Williamson became only the 3rd player from New Zealand to amass 15000 runs in International cricket after Ross Taylor (17862) and Stephen Fleming (15319).

Williamson, in 348 innings, became the fastest New Zealand player to complete 15000 runs in International cricket and also the 5th fastest among the 36 players to reach this milestone.


A record partnership:

369 – The 369-run partnership between Henry Nicholls and Kane Williamson is now the 3rd highest stand for any wicket in Test cricket for New Zealand. Martin Crowe and Aaron Jones added 467 runs for the 3rd wicket against Sri Lanka in the 1991 Wellington Test while the opening pair of Glenn Turner and Terry Jarvis shared a 387-run opening stand against West Indies in the 1972 Georgetown Test.

  


Pakistan’s worst in terms of extras:

64 – Pakistan team conceded as many as 64 extra runs during New Zealand’s first innings which are the joint-most they ever conceded in a Test inning. As many as 64 runs came via extras in South Africa’s first innings during the 1995 Johannesburg Test when Pakistan was the bowling team. Only six times a team conceded more than 64 runs through extras in a Test inning.

17 – Pakistan conceded as many as 17 runs through wides which are the most they ever conceded in a Test inning and also the joint 4th most by any team in an innings. Pakistan did concede 27 runs through byes which are the 2nd most they conceded in a Test innings behind the 28 byes in the 1952 Delhi Test against India.


A record pair for Shan Masood:

8 – Shan Masood became only the 8th Pakistan opener to bag a pair in Test cricket. The last of the seven players was Khurram Manzoor in the 2013 Dubai Test against South Africa.

33 – As many as 33 balls were faced by Shan Masood during his pair; the most by any opening batsman while bagging a pair in Test cricket. Previous most was 26 balls by Marvan Atapattu during the 2001 Colombo Test against England where he bagged a pair.

Masood’s 33 balls are also the 2nd most balls faced during a pair in Test cricket for Pakistan. Previous highest was 39 balls by Abdur Rauf in the 2009 Colombo Test against Sri Lanka.
