Just a few hours after it was revealed that Gautam Gambhir ‘might be considered for the opener slot’ after KL Rahul suffered a hamstring niggle, it seems that Yuvraj Singh is also in line to make an ODI comeback after three years in the upcoming 5-match series against New Zealand which begins from 16 October to 29 October.

Yuvraj Singh will be undergoing a fitness test in Bengaluru on Wednesday. It is rumoured that Kumble spoke with both Gambhir and Yuvraj on the sidelines of the Duleep Trophy earlier this month considering the long home season that is ahead, according to Aaj Tak.

Indian coach Anil Kumble, according to the reports from India Today, has asked to call back the in-form Gautam Gambhir as a backup opener for the second Test in Kolkata, starting September 30. Gambhir, who was in remarkable form during the recently concluded Duleep trophy and is strongly speculated to open with Vijay if Rahul misses out the Eden Gardens in the 2nd Test.

The duo, if they get selected, would want to grab this opportunity as this could perhaps be their last shot at getting into the Indian team.

Yuvraj has been toiling hard to get into the Indian team and was recalled to the T20I side earlier this year for the limited-overs tour to Australia before the start of the World T20. Gambhir, on the other hand, has been in a rich vein of form in the Duleep Trophy where he led India Blue to the title scoring 77, 90, 59, 94 and 36 in three matches.
