The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League is just a few months away as all the fans await yet another season of the world’s biggest cricket carnival. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have been the most successful teams in the tournament’s history as both the teams share 7 IPL trophies between themselves.

The fans believe that a batsman can win a game in T20s but, the bowlers lead the team to the titles and, Mumbai and Chennai are the living examples of the aforementioned statement. Both the teams have solid bowling attacks and the fact that their players have won the Purple Cap award in IPL reflects the same.

It is every bowler’s dream to win the Purple Cap in IPL and here is one bowler from each team who could win this title in 2020:

1. Mumbai Indians – Jasprit Bumrah

One of the most prolific fast bowlers of the world, Jasprit Bumrah has been the reason behind Mumbai Indians’ success in the previous IPL seasons. Bumrah has shouldered the bowling responsibilities of Mumbai along with Lasith Malinga and Mitchell McClenaghan.

Talking about his IPL career so far, Bumrah has represented the Mumbai-based IPL franchise in 77 matches where he has scalped 82 wickets and given away runs at an economy rate of 7.55. He has a bowling strike rate of 21.12 and an average of 26.59.

The right-arm fast bowler from Ahmedabad has the ability to take wickets in the powerplay overs as well as the death overs. So, he will be the frontrunner from the Mumbai Indians to win the coveted Purple Cap award in IPL 2020.

2. Chennai Super Kings – Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar has been one of the many talents that MS Dhoni has unearthed in the Indian Premier League. The right-arm fast bowler had grabbed the headlines with his terrific bowling performance in the recently concluded T20I series versus Bangladesh.

Chahar broke Yuzvendra Chahal’s record of the best bowling figures in T20I cricket by an Indian bowler with his figures of 6/7. He will lead the fast bowling attack of Chennai in IPL 2020 which would also consist of Josh Hazlewood, Shardul Thakur and Sam Curran.

The Rajasthan-based player has played 34 IPL matches in his career, picking up 33 wickets at an economy rate of 7.63. A majority of his wickets came in the previous edition of IPL thus, he will be the leading candidate from CSK to win the Purple Cap.

3. Royal Challengers Bangalore – Yuzvendra Chahal

As mentioned ahead, Yuzvendra Chahal was the holder of the record for the best figures by an Indian bowler in T20I cricket before Deepak Chahar broke it in 2019. This signifies the fact that the leg-spinner from Haryana has the ability to pick wickets at regular intervals.

Chahal has been the cornerstone of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team ever since he joined the team. The switch from Mumbai Indians to RCB has played a major role in Chahal’s rise and now, he is the best right-arm leg-spinner of the country.

Since Virat Kohli uses him in the middle overs, Chahal has lesser chances of taking wickets however, the former chess player has outwitted the batsmen and dismissed them with his variations. Chahal can win the Purple Cap from RCB in IPL 2020.

4. Sunrisers Hyderabad – Rashid Khan

Speaking of leg-spinners, the first player to take a hat-trick in 2020, Rashid Khan will be the leading candidate to win the Purple Cap from Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Orange Army had played a masterstroke by signing Khan in the auction when he was not so famous.

His consistent performances in T20 cricket have made him a household name in the cricket universe. The right-arm leg-spinner has played the main role in the upliftment of cricket in Afghanistan. Also, he has captained his nation at the international level.

Kane Williamson has perfect knowledge about the talent that Rashid has. Thus, he will use him properly and it won’t be an understatement to say that he will be Sunrisers Hyderabad’s trump card in IPL 2020. Khan had taken 17 wickets in 15 matches last year.

5. Kolkata Knight Riders – Pat Cummins

Kolkata Knight Riders had surprised every cricket fan by submitting a mega bid of 15.50 Crores INR for Pat Cummins in the IPL 2020 Auction. It is not that the Australian fast bowler does not deserve it but he became the most expensive foreign signing in IPL history.

Only the current Indian captain, Virat Kohli will make more money than Cummins in IPL 2020 which shows the status that the Aussie has got after the auction. He will be under the pressure of the price tag in IPL 2020 because he has never received such a big bid.

Given how talented he is, the right-arm fast bowler should perform well under pressure and looking at the bowling options of Kolkata Knight Riders this year, one can easily pick the Aussie to be their prime candidate to win the Purple Cap in IPL 2020.

6. Rajasthan Royals – Jofra Archer

The man who led England to their maiden World Cup win in 2019 by bowling an unbelievable Super Over, Jofra Archer will be the player to watch out for in IPL 2020. When he played in IPL 2019, very few cricketers knew much about him.

But now, all the teams would have adequate data to analyze Archer’s strength and weaknesses. The Barbados-born player had troubled everyone with his pace in 2019 and, the same can be expected from the right-arm pacer in the approaching IPL tourney.

Rajasthan Royals have a variety of options in their fast bowling attack with the addition of overseas stars Tom Curran, Andrew Tye and Oshane Thomas. However, Jofra Archer still remains to be their number 1 pick for winning the Purple Cap award in 2020.

7. Kings XI Punjab – Mohammed Shami

Very few fast bowlers have shown so much improvement in their career that Mohammed Shami showcased in 2019. Although his life off the cricket field has been full of controversies, the right-arm fast bowler has managed to succeed in his profession.

Playing for India at the ICC World Cup 2019, Shami took a miraculous hat trick against Afghanistan and won the game for the team. Besides, he will have the onus of leading Kings XI Punjab’s fast bowling attack in IPL 2020. Shami has not succeeded much in the IPL but 2020 can be his year.

He will have the back of Chris Jordan, James Neesham and Sheldon Cottrell in the pace bowling department. Since the pitch at Mohali is known for assisting the pacers, one can expect Mohammed Shami to have his best IPL season in 2020.

8. Delhi Capitals – Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada will lead the Delhi Capitals’ fast bowling attack in IPL 2020. Delhi have a bunch of Indian international players in their squad but, the team may not be able to perform well if their South African speedster, Rabada does not perform well.

The right-arm fast bowler from the rainbow nation, Rabada had played a key role in the success that Delhi Capitals achieved last year. They could not make it to the final because the fast bowler had left the tournament to gear up for the 2019 World Cup.

However, there would not be any breaks this year and Shreyas Iyer and Co. would look to use Rabada’s services for the entire season. The pacer can wreak havoc in IPL 2020 with the support of Ishant Sharma and Mohit Sharma hence, all eyes will be on him in the 13th IPL season.
