With one stump to aim at, Cheteshwar Pujara runs out William Bragg in debut game for Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire debutant Cheteshwar Pujara executed a brilliant run out to dismiss Glamorgan’s William Bragg for just 5 runs. Pujara had only one stump to aim at and was bang on target to see the back of Bragg. He put up this fantastic fielding display on Day 2 of Nottinghamshire’s encounter against Glamorgan in the County Championship Division 2. Stuart Broad appealed for an LBW which was turned down.

Stuart Broad appealed for an LBW which was turned down. However, Bragg wandered halfway down the track. There was a yes-no situation between Bragg and Jacques Rudolph at the other end. William Bragg, however, had given up. He made a half-hearted effort to get back to the crease. Meanwhile, Pujara caught the batsman unaware and disturbed the woodwork with an accurate throw.

The scores

Nottinghamshire amassed 448 runs in the first innings, courtesy of centuries from Jake Libby and Riki Wessels. Chris Read also came good for Nottinghamshire, with a well-made 88. No.8 batsman Brett Hutton contributed 61 to the team’s first innings total.

Cheteshwar Pujara’s first innings for the club wasn’t a memorable one. He perished for just 2 after having faced 22 balls in the middle. For Glamorgan, Timm van der Gugten finished with a 5-for. He first removed opener Steven Mullaney, and then came back to dismiss Samit Patel. Gugten then got rid of the two centurions Libby and Wessels.

In reply to Nottinghamshire’s first innings total, Glamorgan stuttered early on. They found themselves in a spot of bother at 51/4 in the 25th over. After a 70-run partnership between Aneurin Donald and David Lloyd, Stuart Broad got rid of the latter. Shortly after, Chris Cooke was cleaned up by a brilliant delivery from Broad.

At the end of 50 overs, Glamorgan were at 152/6, still 296 arrears. With another 2 days to go, an inspired bowling performance from the Nottinghamshire quicks could well go to force a result at Trent Bridge.
