Out of form New Zealand all-rounder, Jimmy Neesham was dropped from his domestic side Otago Volts from the Super Smash competition. Otago Volts faced the Auckland at Molyneux Park today in a T20 game. 27-year-old Neesham made his debut for the Blackcaps in 2012 with a T20 internationals against Bangladesh.
Neesham has played 15 T20 games for New Zealand but was dropped from the side because of his inconsistent runs. He has represented New Zealand in 41 ODIs and 12 Tests as well. He has two Test centuries to his name but he hasn’t managed to go past the two figures mark with the bat in the ODIs.
His struggle continues
His form has been very shaky as the all-rounder has struggled to get the right rhythm and now has been replaced by seamer Matt Bacon. In the ongoing Super Smash tournament, Neesham’s average of 6 with the bat suggests the struggle of the left-hander. He has performed better with the ball in hand as he has picked 5 wickets in 6 games but his economy of over 11 has not helped his cause of staying on the side.
Neesham’s last game for the national side was during the Champions Trophy in England against Bangladesh which they had lost by 5 wickets. He was sidelined from the New Zealand squad for the tour of India in the month of October earlier this year after his poor outing in the Champions Trophy.
Talking about his omission from the squad, the New Zealand coach had said that the left-hander needs to perform well in the domestic arena to get back in the side, “Jimmy needs to go back and really dominate domestic cricket with both bat and ball,” Mike Hesson had said earlier.
He had called Neesham a talented player but also had mentioned that he needs to be consistent in the all the areas of the game to be in the team. “We know Jimmy is a talented player, but we’ve spoken with him around improving the consistency in all areas of his game,” Hesson had said according to quotes on Stuff.co.nz
