Australia Women’s batter Rachael Haynes has become a parent with wife Leigh Poulton, also a former New South Wales and Australia cricketer. Haynes was supposed to be a part of the Australia squad for their matches against India, but she was ruled out of the series after she sustained a hamstring injury in the opening ODI at the Harrup Park in Mackay.

She was with the Aussie squad for the opening day of the ongoing Day-Night Test at the Carrara Oval in Queensland. But she returned home to Sydney to spend quality time with her partner, who was expecting the birth of their child. After becoming a parent, Haynes posted an adorable picture to show how grateful she was despite missing the Test match against India.

She took to Twitter and wrote, “As the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining. While disappointed to miss the test, yesterday fate took hold and we welcomed Hugo Poulton-Haynes into the world. Mum and bub are doing well, and we can’t help but think our world has become a little brighter.”

Back in August, the 34-year-old Haynes had confirmed that she won’t be missing the birth of her child and that she would be returning to her hometown, though she was aware of the strict quarantine rules.

“I’m definitely not going to miss the birth of my child if I have any control over that, so I’ll definitely be returning to Sydney in October. It’s really hard to know exactly how that will look and I’d be guessing how that transition will take place,” Haynes had said.

Haynes won’t be a part of the upcoming T20Is against India either. In the first ODI, the left-hander scored in the 90s, guiding Australia to a nine-wicket win. Beth Mooney replaced her as the opener from the second ODI onwards.

Haynes is also a part of the Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash League to start on Saturday, October 16. It remains to be seen if she can make the cut for the games. The Thunder are set to start their campaign on October 16 against Hobart Hurricanes.
