Candice Warner has taken a jibe at David Warner’s critics after the Australian batter became the Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup 2021. Warner was the standout batter for the Aussies, having scored 289 runs from seven matches at an average of 48.16 and a strike rate of 146.70. The southpaw notched three fifties with a top score of an unbeaten 89.

The 35-year-old Warner wasn’t in the best of forms coming into the mega event, but gave an account of his class and calibre. He also became the second after England’s Kevin Pietersen to win the Player of the Series award from the World Cup-winning team. Candice made a sarcastic remark at the critics for their harsh remarks on her husband.

Candice took to Twitter and wrote, “Out of form, too old and slow! congratulations @davidwarner31.”

Definitely up there with 2015, says David Warner

Warner was at his very best even in the final on Sunday against Kane Williamson’s New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium. He scored a 38-ball 53 and helped Australia chase down 173 with seven balls to spare. The left-hander also compared Sunday’s game to final of the 2015 50-over World Cup where the Aussies beat the Black Caps itself.

On his comeback, Warner said that “going back to basics” helped him big time in gaining back his rhythm. He also lauded his teammates for delivering under pressure while chasing down a formidable score.

“Always felt really well. Didn’t get much time in the middle in the two practice matches obviously. But for me it was about going back to basics. Going to hard, synthetic wickets and try to hit some balls. Definitely up there with 2015. Being part of the World Cup final against England a decade ago definitely hurt,” Warner was quoted as saying after the match.

“These guys are a great bunch of guys. Great support staff, great team, great support back home. Just wanted to put on a great spectacle for everyone. Bit of nerves around with a good score on the board. Just great to see the guys deliver,” he added.
