Former Pakistan gloveman Rashid Latif lashed out at Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir, saying the youngster is no longer the lethal bowler he used to be. The 50-year-old believes that Amir has not been up to the mark and is not at his best since his last memorable performance with the ball in Champions Trophy 2017.

The former captain blamed the 26-year-old’s diminishing skill to swing the ball as the reason for his downfall in international cricket lately. He also suggested the left-arm-pacer to play more domestic cricket and said that he should not have been picked for the South Africa tour where he flopped with the ball.

The Karachi-born former cricketer also made a bold statement saying that the country has many skilled bowlers to replace the struggling Amir if he doesn’t improve soon as his bowling has been lacking both pace and swing. Latif emphasized that the young bowler should work on his swing and pace at the National Cricket Academy to regain his skills.

Pakistan has a number of bowlers who can replace him

“He should have played more domestic cricket, and may be introduced later, but he shouldn’t have been picked for the South Africa tour. A lot of work needs to be done over Amir, he is missing the pace and swing that needs to be worked on at the National Cricket Academy. This could bring in improvement if there are no improvements than Pakistan has a number of such bowlers who can replace him,” said Latif, while speaking at Caught Behind.

Amir was Pakistan’s highest wicket-taker (12 wickets) in the three-Test series against the Proteas, which the home team won 3-0. However, the Changa Bangial native went wicketless in six ODIs straight before he claimed one wicket in the fourth ODI against the Proteas. In his last 10 ODI appearances, Amir has only accounted for three scalps.

He was benched in the first match of the three-match T20I series which South Africa won by 6 runs. The next match will be played on February 03 in Johannesburg.
