In the past, we have seen that non-payment of salaries to players have created very big issues for the national cricket board. Players expect their salaries to be paid duly and on time for their services to the nation. Players have come out in the open on several occasions and refused to play for the country until their dues are cleared. The board must ensure that such issues do not arise as it may create a rift and affect the on-field performance of the team.

Sarfraz Ahmed, Pakistan skipper is an employee of the Pakistani International Airlines and represents the entity in domestic cricket. He along with several other players have represented the entity but haven’t received their salaries as yet. PIA is yet to clear the salaries of many players for two months. It is believed that the dues were not cleared as the players were absent from work.

An issue to be resolved soon

PIA Spokesperson Mashood Tajwar clarified to Geo News that a glitch in the attendance system is the cause of the delay. Payments to cricketers, footballers and Olympians have been held due to absenteeism.

“The salary is withheld automatically due to a time management system where the players are marked absent,” he said. These players have been exempted from marking their attendance at work but the system is yet to update the same which is why the payment has been withheld. The spokesperson assured the players that the issue will be resolved in a day or two and the salaries will be cleared duly.

Pakistan is currently playing a test match against England at Lord’s. Sarfraz and his team have exceeded expectations so far and are on course to beat England in their own backyard. The team has looked good in all three departments and will be hoping to make the final kill soon.
